Although now a beautiful botanical garden open to the public, Pamplemousse had humble beginnings in the form of a vegetable farm for the local governor. Gradually is got upgraded, with walkways, ponds and a huge array of palms being added. In particular it is know for its huge waterlillies and its flowering lotuses. The gardens are quiet- if you stay off the beaten track it is almost deserted, and it makes a calm, cool refuge from the Mauritian sun. Some of these photos are from last year, some from a more recent visit last week.
Just gorgeous!
